Palomino Horse Breeders of America – The international organization known as the Palomino Horse Breeders of America (PHBA) was formed in 1941 to collect, record, preserve the purity of blood, and improve the breeding of Palomino horses. The original concept began in 1938 due to the efforts of numerous dedicated horsemen and horsewomen.
PHBA offers a little something for everyone. We pride ourselves on being a family friendly organization. We have a great competitive spirit, but at the end of the day, it’s the friends and memories we make that matter most of all. Check out our various Programs and Show Information.

An Affiliate is a PHBA recognized regional palomino organization. These Affiliates put on PHBA recognized events such as shows. To find an existing APA (Affiliate Palomino Association) near you, click here.

Basically any horse meeting the color characteristics outlined in the PHBA Handbook can qualify for the PHBA Registry. They must also be registered with one of the approved breed associations or if the parentage is unknown or one parent is not registered, there is a hardship clause that can be applied for to have your horse considered for registration. We add breeds to the approved list often, so please see the PHBA Handbook for current rules regarding registration.
Palomino Bred (PB) is a horse of any color and may exhibit any characteristics (such as, but not limited to, Paint, Appaloosa), that cannot meet the PHBA registration guidelines as stated in the current year PHBA Official Handbook,Rules 503-512. A PB must also be produced from the breeding of at least one PHBA registered parent (not including the PB registry), and the other parent is required to be from the list of PHBA recognized breed registries.
Fill out and send in a registration application. Make sure you follow the instructions and send in all of the documentation with the application. You can find the forms for both the Palomino and Palomino Bred Registry here: Registration Forms.
If you are purchasing a horse that is already registered, you just have to send in the registration transfer form with the original registration papers. The seller of the horse will have to sign the transfer form, so make sure you have them fill out their part at the time of sale.
