In preparation for the 75th Anniversary celebration of the Palomino Horse Breeders of America, the Palomino Horse Breeders Heritage Foundation Board members have been coming to Tulsa for monthly work days since March. Much is being planned to mark this Diamond Jubilee during 2016. Look for the PHBA Save the Date cards to see what and when some of the special events are being planned.
A PHBA 75th Anniversary book is one of the Heritage Board’s main projects. This publication will commemorate the history and achievements of the association for the past 75 years. The plans are to give this book without cost to members. In order to defray the expense of publishing this book, advertising is being sold. Deadline for ad space is set for September 1. If you think that you might have to wait a bit for photographs from this year to come, please let us know so we can give you the time that you need and alert the publisher. The front cover will feature one of PHBA’s Orren Mixer paintings. Please contact any of the PHB Heritage Foundation board members for information on the ad rates if you have not been contacted. They are listed on the PHBA website under Heritage Foundation. The book will be available at the 2016 PHBA Convention in Tulsa next March. Included will be the histories of the Open, Youth and Amateurs along with all the programs offered by PHBA. Along with this, there will be several interesting articles and photographs about some of PHBA’s personalities, horses and events from the past. The publisher has met with the Board twice already in order to ensure a quality publication.
The March 2016 PHBA Convention will have an extra day added at the beginning so that members and friends can enjoy visiting the museum at the PHBA headquarters, enjoying some light refreshments and doing some reminiscing. The convention highlights will include the Third Annual Heritage Night complete with a nice dinner and a fun-filled evening afterwards. The Foundation will co-host with PHBA the reception of the Hall of Fame inductees on Saturday evening. Another project is a gift bag for each person registered for the convention; some of the items will commemorate PHBA’s 75th year.
Please support the Heritage classes at this year’s World Show. The open halter and open western pleasure classes will each have a $750 payback; proceeds of the entry fees, etc. will, again, be given to PHBA as in the past. The added payback does not come from the Heritage Foundation monies, but from sponsors whose desire is to show the World Show attendees and the younger exhibitors a bit of show history from the past. Payback is handed out with the trophy/ribbons at the end of the class.
The next work days for the Heritage Foundation are set for September 15th, 16th and the 17th. The board will be working on putting the finishing details of the 75th Anniversary Book together. Anyone interested in helping with this project is welcome to join the Board at the PHBA office in Tulsa during that time.
