November 2014 – PHB Heritage Foundation News

The Palomino Horse Breeders Heritage Foundation board members met and worked on several projects, October 29th, 30th and 31st at the PHBA offices and museum in Tulsa.   Lynn and Floyd Branson, Carolyn Henderson, Helen Fleming and Alda Buresh were there in person, with Les and Ginny Baskerville and Carol and Terry Goble being just a phone call or two away to provide input.

Several new donations were placed for exhibition, the plaques and photographs in the Board Room were updated and hung and plans were made for the 75th Anniversary celebration of PHBA.  The Foundation was very happy to acquire some new exhibits.  Mrs. Roy Cates of Tulsa, OK, donated a large, framed photograph of the PHBA/AQHA legend, Question Mark.  The Cates’ owned this grand stallion.  The Board is grateful to Bob Henderson for making this a reality.  A 25th PHBA- Amateur Anniversary sculpture done by Cowboy Bronze was another acquisition.  A Boyt saddle has been donated by the Buresh Family, with the restoration done in large part by the Bransons.  The Boyt Harness Company is located in Iowa  and was known for their saddles and harnesses as well as suppliers of leather goods to the US Armed Forces during World War l and ll.  A poster of Will Rogers astride a Palomino was another donation which was framed and hung.

The Board took a road trip to the Will Rogers Museum in Claremore, the Will Rogers Birthplace Ranch in Oologah and the D.W. Correll Museum in Catoosa, OK to see what ideas for displays and information we could garner from those historical museums.  We certainly would recommend anyone near those areas to take the time out to enjoy the museums.  You will not regret the experience.  We got some  historical information about Palominos and their owners from the visits.  We also found out that Jan Glover Hallum probably knows everyone who has anything to do with horses.

A huge undertaking by this board will be a book detailing PHBA and it’s 75 year old history.  If anyone is interested in helping with this project, please contact anyone on the board.  Next work days will be slated for January.  Please remember the Foundation with your donations so that we can keep this work going.  Your contribution is tax deductible.  May Thanksgiving be a truly thankful time for you and yours and may we always be thankful and grateful to those who serve, and have served, in the Armed Forces as well as their families who also sacrifice so much so we all can live in freedom.
